What is Rasaaya?
Rasaaya is a practice rooted in material, process, and everyday use. Our work spans apparel, objects for the home, and care essentials, all shaped by a shared approach to making — one that values time, restraint, and longevity.
Rather than working within categories, we focus on how things are made and how they are lived with.

What kinds of products does Rasaaya create?
Rasaaya works across three broad areas:

  • clothing and accessories made from handwoven fabrics
  • textiles and soft furnishings for the home
  • care products developed through botanical knowledge and small-batch processes

Though different in form, these products are connected by a common design language and way of thinking.

Where are Rasaaya products made?
Our work is developed in collaboration with weavers, dyers, makers, and formulators across different regions of India, including the Northeast.
Each product reflects the conditions, skills, and materials of its place of origin, while being designed for contemporary use.

How do you work with artisans and makers?
Our role is to connect traditional skills with present-day requirements.
We work with existing knowledge systems — weaving, dyeing, material handling, and formulation — and adapt them thoughtfully rather than altering them for speed or scale.
The relationships we build are long-term and process led.

What does sustainability mean to Rasaaya?
For us, sustainability begins with time.
Many traditional practices — whether in textiles, making objects, or preparing formulations — were built around careful processes and durable outcomes. As faster and cheaper systems replace these methods, the knowledge and livelihoods tied to them are increasingly at risk.
Sustainability, at Rasaaya, lies in choosing to continue working with processes that were already mindful of material, maker, and use.

Are Rasaaya products seasonal or trend-led?
No. Our work is not developed around seasons or trends.
Collections evolve slowly, guided by material availability, process, and use rather than calendars.

How do you approach design?
We value comfort over appearance, use over novelty, and restraint over excess. Design decisions are informed by how objects are worn, handled, washed, stored, and lived with — often taking cues from everyday clothing, domestic textiles, and familiar rituals.

Are your products handmade?
Many stages of our work involve hand processes — from weaving and dyeing to assembling and finishing. Some processes also combine handwork with simple tools where necessary for consistency and safety.
We are less concerned with labels, and more with whether the process is appropriate to the material and end use.

Do you work in small batches?
Yes. Working in small batches allows us to remain attentive to quality, material behaviour, and process. It also enables flexibility and reduces excess production.

Who are Rasaaya products made for?
Rasaaya is for those who value thoughtful making and everyday comfort — people who prefer objects that settle into their lives quietly and age with use.

Is Rasaaya an ethical brand?
Ethics, for us, are embedded in how decisions are made — from sourcing and production to scale and pricing. Rather than positioning ethics as a claim, we treat it as an ongoing responsibility.

How does Rasaaya see the future?
Rasaaya is not built for rapid expansion. We see the brand growing gradually across materials and contexts, remaining rooted in the same principles — careful making, respect for knowledge, and relevance to everyday life.
